“The Oeiras Promenade will remain closed until weather conditions are favorable”, said the municipality, in a statement, adding that sea agitation, strong wind and rain are expected, with particular warning in the period between 11:00 and 4 p.m.

The chamber stressed that the population should avoid traveling unless it is strictly necessary.

According to information available on the municipality's website, the Passeio Marítimo currently has a total length of 5,500 meters.

All districts on the continent are today under an orange weather warning (the second most serious on a scale of three) due to bad weather.

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) predicts for today, with the passage of depression Aline, southwest wind, gradually becoming strong in the Center and South regions from the beginning of the morning, with gusts that could reach 110 kilometers per hour (km/h), especially on the coast south of Cape Mondego and including the south coast of the Algarve, and in the mountains of these regions.

The IPMA indicates that gusts exceeding 110 km/h may occur locally, as well as extreme wind phenomena.

As for rain, it should increase in frequency and intensity from the morning onwards, and, in terms of sea agitation, waves from the west quadrant measuring four to five meters are expected for the western coast, increasing to five to seven meters in height and possibly reach a maximum height of up to 14 meters.

On the south coast of the Algarve, the waves will be from the southwest, increasing to four to 4.5 meters during the afternoon.

Between 00:00 and 07:30, the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) recorded 99 events related to bad weather, which did not cause victims or major damage – floods, tree falls, mass movements (land), cleaning roads and falling structures.
