Thousands of Portuguese gathered in the 'fan zone' at Doca da Marinha, in Lisbon, both before the opening whistle of the game against the Czech team, in the first round of Group F of the European Championship, and during the moments following the Portuguese triumph.

“I think it is as a team that we will be able to become European champions. The team is not just Cristiano Ronaldo, it is much more than that,” argued Catarina Marques, who expressed her belief in the European title for Portugal, based on the strength of the collective above any individuality.

Fan Fábio Baptista was also cautiously hopeful about how far the Portugal team could progress in the competition. “There are also teams with a lot of potential and, perhaps, even a little more potential than Portugal, like France, Spain itself surprised me in the first game", he said.

“I think that in the end, we have to believe that victory will smile upon us”, concluded the Portuguese fan, in a belief shared by Rui Figueiredo and Iara Silva, who recalled that the team led by Roberto Martínez has players with the necessary capacity and experience to guide Portugal towards success.

The Portuguese team won their debut match in Group F of Euro2024 against the Czech Republic 2-1, in a game played at the Red Bull Arena, in Leipzig. Shortly before, in Dortmund, the official start of the group, Turkey beat Georgia, 3-1.
