According to Publituris, if 95% of Portuguese people say they will travel this summer, 46.9% will stay in the country and 48.9% will spend between 600 and 900 euros, concludes a survey carried out by Klarna, adding that, of those who say they will not travel, the majority (65%) indicates that the increase in the cost of living is the main reason.

The survey by the AI-based global payments and shopping assistant network also reveals that, when asked about the influence of the current economic panorama on holiday plans, the Portuguese indicated that they look for cheaper accommodation (39.4%) and for closer destinations (33.1%), also reducing the number of travel days (26%).

Still, the majority (57%) of Portuguese people will leave their place of residence for at least 8 to 14 days, with the main objective of relaxing (78.6%), discovering new places and cultures (67%), or spending time with family and friends (61%). Choosing a destination may be the most difficult, with budget (62.4%), climate (55.7%), and safety (52.3%) being the main factors in choosing a location.

When it comes to planning their holidays, 44.2% of Portuguese people start three months in advance. Of the dedicated budget, accommodation (60%), tourist attractions (36.8%), and food (33.3%) take the largest share and, therefore, technological innovations, namely Artificial Intelligence that the Portuguese most would like to use, are related to price comparison tools (68.3%) and for creating personalised itineraries (52.8%). Among the online platforms that help with planning and reservations, Booking.com (80.5%), Trivago (47.1%), and Airbnb (34.3%) are among the favorites.
