The objective is to remind those who visit the southern region of mainland Portugal of the need to make rational use of water.

The main feature of this campaign will be six suitcases, filled with water, circulating on the conveyor belts where passengers arriving at the airport collect their luggage.

According to the president of the Algarve Tourism Region, this campaign is part of the Save Water campaign that tourism launched last March, with the aim of reducing consumption compared to last year. A campaign that involves raising awareness among tourists but also through the adoption of a set of measures by hotel units.

Units that adopt the measures receive a quality seal. The goal is to achieve a 13% reduction compared to 2023, in the business sector, which includes tourism. And this objective is close to being achieved, says André Gomes.

The president of Algarve Tourism also indicates that this campaign to save water has not affected demand for the region from tourists. Data from the National Statistics Institute (INE), now available until May, even shows an increase in the number of visitors and revenue from Algarve tourism.
