Clifford is an award-winning chef, having won the BBC’s Great British Menu television competition in 2012 and the Chef's Chef of the Year award at the 2015 and 2016 AA awards. His restaurant, Midsummer House, in Cambridge, has been titular to two Michelin stars for almost 20 years, and he was also involved with a pub in Essex called The Flitch of Bacon, which held a Michelin star too from 2018 to 2021.

The star-studded guest list included Mark Abbott, Midsummer House’s Head Chef, double Michelin star holders Claude Bosi (from Bibendum restaurant), Tom Kerridge (Hand and Flowers, as well as the 1-star restaurant The Coach), Sat Bains (Restaurant Sat Bains), as well as single Michelin star chefs Simon Hulstone (The Elephant), Robin Gill (The Dairy), and Jason Atherton (Pollen Street Social and City Social, two restaurants both with Michelin stars).

The wedding went pleasantly, as “Daniel and Alice’s 60 guests enjoyed the 3-day celebrations which included a welcome party with canapes, wedding ceremony and reception party, pizza party and games,” Midsummer House told The Portugal News.

The wedding was held at Casa Monte Cristo, a collection of villas and apartments available for holiday rental located in and around Lagos, in the Western Algarve. “Mr & Mrs. Clifford would like to thank the Casa Monte Cristo Collection management team who went above and beyond,” Midsummer House shared, mentioning Victoria Morgan-Cummins, as well as Steven Morgan-Cummins, who’s the world ambassador of the World Master Chefs Society and head chef at Casa Monte Cristo, and the holiday rental collection’s master chef Alan Cummins. “No small task to cook for such a collection of Michelin Star chefs!”

The Cliffords and their guests also made use of their holiday in the Algarve to experience some of the region’s cuisine. Midsummer House has offered “high praise” to two of the chefs’ favourite local restaurants, Onda Luz in Praia da Luz and Dois Irmãos in Lagos.

Earlier in the year, Michelin Guide officially announced that Portugal would be the beneficiary of its very own Michelin Guide in 2024. The country, which holds 38 Michelin stars in total across its restaurants, has been recognised by the food reviewer as a “creative corner of Europe” and “a culinary destination in its own right.”
