According to a resolution of the Council of Ministers published in the Official Gazette (DR), this authorises Metro do Porto "to incur expenses with the charges related to the investments necessary for the expansion of the Porto Metro Network - Casa da Música-Santo Ovídio (Rubi Line) and the BRT Boavista - Império Line, up to the global amount of, respectively, 487,985,261.43 euros and 76,000,000.00" euros, plus VAT, it states.
The amount for the BRT [aka metrobus] remains unchanged in relation to what had been previously approved, but the Rubi Line receives an increase of €52.9 million.
The increase, which also implies changes in the amount of expenditure allocated to each year of the project, is due to the "updating of the cost of civil construction, equipment and systems, including signaling and technical systems in the new Command and Control Post, taking into account the high complexity of the project for the construction of the Rubi Line" and the "verification of price review coefficients higher than those estimated".
The Council of Ministers' resolution also authorizes Metro do Porto to "incur expenses with the costs arising from the maintenance of the signaling system for the Rubi Line, considering that it is a system of high technical complexity and for which there is still no experience at national level, in the total amount of 2,450,000.00" euros plus VAT.
Unlike what happens with the Rubi Line project, which will be financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan and the State Budget, the financial costs of maintaining the signaling system are supported by Metro do Porto's own budget revenues, associated with the operation of the Rubi Line.
The project must be completed by the end of 2026, but a source from Porto Metro has already admitted to Lusa that the bridge should only be completed in 2027, with finishing touches being the main issue.
