The series already has five published books, and the sixth is already on its way to being published to finish the story of Amy Sheldon.

In an interview with The Portugal News, Marsh revealed that the heroin of the book is “a British undercover cop who realises her bosses are going to frame her and send her to jail.” Therefore, she has to choose between “biting the bullet or running and hiding.” After that, Amy Sheldon “escapes corrupt police and the criminal gangsters who want her dead but cannot flee her memories.”

All books have some connection with Portuguese culture, whether through language or even the place where the action is happening. The author has lived in Portugal and learned “that people wear their emotions with pride, take risks, and embrace the unknown.” Having “14 crime dramas set in Europe”, J. J. Marsh wanted to make the Run and Hide series go “all over the globe” and started searching in an atlas and found that “many ex-Portuguese colonies looked like intriguing places, ideal as a thriller backdrop.”

Adding to that, she knows how to speak Portuguese, which helped to build the story.

The book’s story travels through almost all continents, starting in Brazil, and then going to Asia, in Macau and Goa. Mozambique is also a scenario for the book, “Pearl Moon”. Portugal will also be part of the series, as the events of the last book take place in the Azores, namely on São Miguel Island.

J. J. Marsh takes almost a year to write each book, spending “six months for a first draft”, and another two months to edit and proofread what was written. Nevertheless, the six books were already planned before the first one was written. This process allowed the author “to create an arc for this character, developing her as she meets other people, becomes entangled in adventures, grows up, and reaches her final destination.”

The book can be bought online, through Amazon, and is available worldwide in “paperbacks and audiobooks (…) as well as ebooks.” The books have not yet been translated into Portuguese, but Jill Marsh hopes to “have all six Run and Hide books translated into Portuguese next year.”
