The competition final will take place on September 30th, as part of the Cooking Congress, at Nirvana Studios, in Oeiras, where the winner will be announced, according to a report by NM.

The challenge began with the registration phase, aimed at establishments that produce their own pastries in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area. This was followed by the qualifying competitions, which took place on September 11th, 12th and 13th, at the Lexus Lisbon Centre. The grand final, open to the public, will be attended by the 12 finalist establishments.

According to the chairman of the jury, Virgílio Nogueiro Gomes, during the tasting, characteristics such as 'Appearance', 'Touch of the dough', 'Flavour and consistency of the dough', 'Filling' and 'Overall flavour' are scored. The members of the jury taste the pastries blindly, without knowing which establishment they are from, so that the evaluation is completely impartial.

In this edition, the jury was also composed of Cláudia Lima Carvalho (Time Out Lisbon journalist), Catarina Amado (Director of Communications and Marketing at Edições do Gosto), Diogo Lopes (pastry chef at Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon), Lara Figueiredo (pastry chef at Penha Longa Resort), João Pedro Gomes (gastronomic researcher), Domingos Soares Franco (winemaker), Isabel Zibaia Rafael (author and blogger) and Joana Barrios (presenter at 24 Kitchen and author).

The best Pastel de Nata competition was launched in 2009 and is organised by Edições do Gosto and Virgílio Gomes.

From among the 44 participating establishments, 12 finalists were chosen. They are:

  • Altis Belém Hotel & Spa;
