Barcelona, Copenhagen, Florence, London, Paris and Vienna are some of the European cities that were also competing for this title, which was awarded to Lisbon for “its diverse and quality offer” in terms of gastronomy.
“It is a great source of pride to see Lisbon’s identity and traditions awarded for the first time in this sector and how innovation combines with these gastronomic traditions. It is recognition of the quality of the gastronomy for which Lisbon is so well known and an award that encourages all the professionals who keep it alive”, says Carlos Moedas, Mayor of Lisbon.
The World Culinary Awards are a “sister” event of the World Travel Awards (WTA) and are celebrating their fifth edition this year, aiming to promote global culinary culture and encourage gastronomic tourism.
These awards highlight best practices and innovations in the sector and cover several categories, including restaurants, chefs, hotels and other culinary-related establishments, with the winners chosen through public voting.
No. It is not. This blatantly false.

OMG. How much did they have to pay the outlet to publish something so mad. Portugal News - by publishing this nonsense - is outing itself as "propaganda" channel. Very sad.

Taste like art is a matter of your perception; embrace the award as it is good for the economy or maybe you dont want that K, ie. tourism; I get it if that's your point of view. People who have traveled here from the US who have traveled Europe exclaim to me I am sooo fortunate to live here as the food is incredible.
WHICH city in the EU tops your culinary list K so I can visit and compare?

It may have won best European city culinary destination, but come on…that is pure nonsense. What in the world was the criteria to be “the best?” I love Lisbon but this seems more than a bit absurd for it to win over many better cities just in Spain and Italy alone.

I don’t know who judges these things but I simply don’t get it! I love PT, but not the food. Personally I find Spanish tapas variety, taste, price very hard to beat.
